With the new year, we welcomed onboard Paul Gorton as our new Director of Sales EMEA. Paul has over 20+ years of combined experience in application engineering & sales. Get to know Paul more with this exclusive extended Interview.

Tell us something about yourself that our team may not know about you.

Paul: Two things, firstly I was part of the team involved in implementing the first VSAT system into a UK North Sea oil platform. Secondly, I was a lead engineer with Globecast during with the trails of UK Satellite DVB resulting in the original BBC simulcast of an Analogue carrier alongside a Digital DVB carrier which then was the start of DTH. These two things were for me defining moments and that I’m proud to have been part of.

What's a hobby you currently enjoy doing?

Paul: Cycling, I love the fact that if I’m stressed, I can escape on two wheels where my effort directly translates to energy on the bike. Sometimes finding a particularly demanding hill and reaching the top gives such a feeling of mind over matter, which is difficult to achieve with other hobbies.

Who inspires you or someone you really admire?

Paul: There are three people, firstly Leonardo DaVinci for his vision in giving the world some of the most ingenious designs and concepts, secondly Nicola Tesla for his passion and tenacity in his varied work in engineering and thirdly my father for providing me with an environment to question and learn.

What was your first job?

Paul: Test Technician for Storno Radiocommunications Ltd, the company manufactured VHF/UHF radios and systems, the company was later bought by Motorola. It was with Storno that I really developed the quest to learn and the passion for customer relations.

Where would you like to see Terrasat in the next year?

Paul: For the company to be known not just for the quality of its products but as pioneers in future development. Many in the industry understand that TWTs have had their day and are becoming only used for ultra-high power or ultra-wide bandwidth or Ultra-High Frequency. We need to be looking at new FETs to see how we can get closer to the those TWT niches. It will be this that drives the company to greater prosperity.

What's your favorite quote?

Paul: “Invention is the most important product of man’s creative brain. The ultimate purpose is the complete mastery of mind over the material world, the harnessing of human nature to human needs” Nicola Tesla
